Fire, Ruins, and…Lemons?

It sounds pretty great to explore the ruins of Pompeii, a city destroyed by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD, and then climb that very mountain, and gaze out onto all the land that was once covered in volcanic ash? Well you can do that very thing. But that all sounds very tiring does it not? You will need a nice relaxing trip to a seaside town to enjoy a crisp drink. Well, you can do all that in the same day. Pompeii, Vesuvius, and Sorrento, all in one.

For centuries, Pompeii has drawn visitors from across the globe. Once a vibrant market town in southern Italy, it now stands as some of the most breathtaking ruins you’ll ever witness. With its grand temples, striking frescoes, and intricate mosaics, it’s no wonder this city has captivated millions of tourists over the years.

Then climb Vesuvius, over 3,500 feet to the peak of a still active volcano (no need to fear, it is heavily monitored), from here, the views are spectacular. This may sound like quite the strenuous climb, but in fact, the bus takes you most of the way up. All that remains is a 30 minute climb to the rim of the crater.

After all this, take a moment to unwind in Sorrento.. Here, you can leisurely stroll, shop, and indulge in delicious food and drink. This picturesque Italian getaway town beckons—why wait any longer to experience its charm?

Amphitheater in Pompeii

Amphitheater in Pompeii

Once the site of all the town's gladiatorial fights and even an ancient brawl between the Pompeian spectators and a neighboring city, this amphitheater has witnessed significant history. Although it's no longer used for gladiatorial combat, Pink Floyd did rock out in this amphitheater.

Stabian Baths in Pompeii

Exploring a Roman town is incomplete without a visit to the bathhouse, even if they're no longer operational. They provide insight into how the Romans relaxed, with a daily ritual of alternating between hot, cold, and lukewarm rooms to clean themselves. It's a shame the frigidarium no longer has frigid water to cool you off from the Pompeian sun!

Forum in Pompeii

Smaller in scale compared to Rome's forum, this was the heart of Pompeii. Experience life as an ancient Pompeian would: visit the Temple of Apollo, stroll to the meat market, and conclude your day at the Forum Baths!

Vesuvius

Vesuvius

The great and terrible volcano that devastated a whole population is still active to this day! Don’t worry though, it is the most monitored volcano in the world. You will get to scale this legendary mountain (again, don’t worry. The bus takes you most of the way up), and marvel at the view from up top. It is a truly earth-shaking experience!

Sorrento

Sorrento

Sorrento is renowned for its lemons, some as large as a human head! The entire town is enchanting, with narrow streets leading to piazzas that offer stunning views of the sea, with the coast stretching out before you and Capri just off the shore. A stroll through Sorrento is a truly delightful experience.
