This stadium would have been able to fit the entire population of Pompeii for any single event. It was no doubt that place to be for all ancient Pompeians. Can you imagine the roar of the crowds? It would have been spectacular. To this day you can still enter into this marvelous structure, although unfortunately, or purpose fortunately, it is no longer used for gladiatorial games.
If you were to tell an ancient Roman that you visited one of their towns and didn’t stop at a public bath complex, they would be shocked. These were so central to Roman daily life, it only makes sense that you make it part of your visit. You will see all the different rooms where water of varying temperatures would have cascaded down for the bathers to enjoy, and also some incredible stucco work on the ceilings!
Ah yes, the ancient forum was an essential part of all Roman towns, lying at the crossroads of the two major roads, this was the center of Roman life. All commerce, judicial, religious, and political would take place here. This forum is particularly pleasing to the eye, given that you can see Mount Vesuvius looming over you in the distance.
This house is adorned with stunning frescoes featuring mythological scenes and vibrant colors. The Vetii brothers, once freed slaves who became wealthy merchants, had a remarkable appreciation for art. This site boasts some of the best-preserved frescoes from the ancient world, freshly restored and reinvigorated for your viewing pleasure!
Perched along a beautiful stretch of the Almalfi coast, its buildings practically spilling down the hillside towards the sea, Positano is jaw-dropping. There is no better way to unwind after a long morning at Pompeii than with a nice cold drink along the beach at Marina Grande, with the sea breeze kissing your face. Stop by the Church of the Ascension of Saint Mary, a captivatingly beautiful church. It is no wonder that it has been the setting for countless films through the years.
