Once the site for all the town's gladiatorial fights, and even ancient brawl between the Pompeian spectators and a neighboring city, this amphitheater has witnessed significant history. While it's no longer used for gladiatorial fights, it did serve as the setting for a Pink Floyd music video.
No visit to a Roman town is complete without a stroll through the bathhouse, even if these particular ones are no longer operational. They serve as prime examples of how the Romans relaxed after a day's work. The Romans would alternate between hot, cold, and luke-warm rooms in order to clean themselves. It was a daily ritual. It's too bad the frigidarium does not still have frigid water to cool you off from the Pompeian sun!
Not quite as grand as the forum in Rome, this was the center of the city of Pompeii. Come here to live like an ancient Pompeian would. Take a trip to the temple of Apollo, cross the way to the meat market, and end at the forum baths to cap off the day!
Sorrento is famous for its lemons. Some of these things are the size of a human head! The whole town is marvelous, and a walk down the narrow streets, to piazzas overlooking the sea, with the coast stretching out before you, Capri just off the shore. A walk through Sorrento is a wonderful experience.
