Apollo’s Oracle Awaits You

You will be picked up from your hotel by a private chauffeur who will drive you to Delphi just a little over 2 hours away, nestled between peaks of Mt. Parnassus, and known to the Greeks as the center of the world. Visitors from all of the Greek world ascend to the ancient temple of Apollo, the god of light and prophecy, and today travellers still make their way to this hallowed site.

There is evidence to suggest that this area was inhabited and in use as early as 1500 BCE. The only difference between you and the Ancient Greek making their way from Athens is that you will be able to get there by car!

Known as the omphalos (umbilical cord) of the world, meaning the center of the world. The Greeks set up the fantastic temple of Apollo, in which they housed Apollo’s oracle, who would give cryptic prophecies to all those that approached with sufficient offerings. It was a site of tremendous importance to all Greeks, because it was a neutral area for all Greek speaking people to converge and make sacrifices to the gods, and exchange news of the world. This site has been here for thousands of years, but that doesn’t mean you should wait any longer to see it!

Suggested starting time: 08:30 am or 09:00 am; times can be adjusted based on preference

Temple of Apollo

Temple of Apollo

The main temple of the area. This is what everyone came to see. It is where the oracle of Apollo would reside, waiting for visitors to bring their offerings and ask for the advice of the god of prophecy. It remains a truly powerful and awe-inspiring location, overlooking the Greek mountains all around.

Temple of Athena

Temple of Athena

The first temple that all visitors would encounter on their journey to Delphi. It was constructed in the 7th BCE. It goes without saying that this temple is incredibly old, and it is a marvel that we have traces of it. Athena was the goddess of Wisdom, perhaps it was a popular thing to ask for as much wisdom as possible before trying to discern the cryptic prophecies left by Apollo.

Archaeological Museum

Archaeological Museum

This is one of Greeks most famous and most visited museums (and that is saying a lot, because Greece is full of museums!). It houses all the finds from the area, including a whole slew of votive offerings to Apollo, which were left by all those ancient visitors seeking propitious omens.

Normandy American Cemetery

Along with the beaches, the American Cemetery is a must see. It is in fact considered American soil. It stretches over 172.5 acres, and contains around 9387 graves.
