Dedicated to Saint Eulalia, the patron saint of Barcelona, this church is a marvel of Gothic architecture. Once inside, the vaulted ceilings and stained glass windows will cause your jaw to drop. Don’t miss the opportunity to climb to the terrace to say hello to the resident geese, believed by the people of Barcelona to symbolize Eulalia’s martyrdom.
Ah how the glories of ancient Rome are found all over Europe. This ancient temple was built in the 1st century to honor Augustus, the very first Roman Emperor. For so many years a symbol of Imperial power, and then for so many centuries lost, it was rediscovered in the 19th century. It is an excellent place to sit and ponder the vicissitudes of time.
A beautiful square named after its most famous church, which is named after Saint Jerome (no surprise there), who famously translated the entire bible into one common language–Latin. The square today is a fabulous example of Catalan Gothic design. Today it is a popular place for locals and visitors alike.
A huge otherworldly park area built in 1901 by the artist Antoni Gaudi. It is filled with colorfully mosaiced buildings that twist and turn in all sorts of fanciful ways. This UNESCO World Heritage site is a must see for any lover of art and architecture!
